Castrol Racing’s Steve Richards showed tremendous speed in the Bigpond 400, round four of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series, at Perth’s Barbagallo raceway recently.
Richards qualified sixth fastest before crossing the line fourth in the opening stanza. Unfortunately for the dual Bathurst Champion his weekend took a turn for the worse when he came together with Mark Skaife on the opening lap of race two. The incident put a premature end to Skaife’s weekend. After making an unscheduled pit stop to replace a damaged left rear tyre Richards charged from deep in the order to record a ninth placing aboard the #6 Castrol FPR Falcon.
Richards continued his good form in the final race to cross the line in seventh place to claim seventh overall for the round, a result which aided him in moving up to fifth in the championship standings.
